Teaching with Primary Sources – MTSU is partnering with the East Tennessee Historical Society to present a webinar on “Songs in the Labor Movement” on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 4 p.m. Central Time. We will be joined by Dr. Brian Dempsey, assistant professor of history and director of the Public History Center at the University of North Alabama, who will discuss the music and activism of American folk icon Woody Guthrie. TPS-MTSU staff will supplement this discussion with resources and classroom activities focusing on primary sources from the Library of Congress, particularly from the Library’s American Folklife Center. This webinar applies most closely to 5 th grade and high school U.S. History standards.
